WHY AN EXCHANGE?
At our high school, students participate in exchanges because we believe they offer a valuable opportunity to practice the formal content taught in lessons. These exchanges allow students to apply what they have learned in real-world situations, improve their language skills, and gain a deeper understanding of different cultures. Additionally, these experiences help students develop greater confidence and foster personal growth while reinforcing their academic learning.
LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE
Since the 2014-15 school year, we have been conducting linguistic and cultural exchanges with other schools in different European countries, involving the 3rd-year ESO students of our institution.
This type of exchange is a unique opportunity for our students because they learn to live together and accept a different culture, while also being ambassadors of their own. Such a trip allows them to practice the English language that they have learned in a formal classroom setting, and by now, they are already familiar with the appropriate communication and language skills to use it in a real-world context.
What does the exchange involve? It involves traveling to the chosen country and staying with a host family, living with a student of the same age as our students for a week. It also means hosting a student at home for a week and providing all meals. It is important to note that the families may have very different backgrounds, so this implies being open to accepting any religious, cultural, or other differences.
In conclusion, these linguistic and cultural exchanges offer an invaluable experience for our students, combining the benefits of language practice with personal growth and cultural understanding. By living with host families and interacting with students from different countries, our students not only improve their English but also develop a global perspective. These exchanges foster mutual respect, broaden horizons, and encourage a deeper appreciation for diversity, making them an essential part of our educational approach. Through these experiences, students gain skills that extend beyond the classroom, preparing them for an increasingly interconnected world.
