YOUNG EUROPEANS
Mission
The Young Europeans project, part of the Erasmus+ programme, aims to empower secondary school students to become active, critical, and engaged citizens in today’s Europe. Through international collaboration, the project promotes youth involvement in democratic life, encouraging students to reflect on their role in shaping the future of Europe.
During their mobilities, students from our highschool worked alongside peers from Greece, Slovenia, Lithuania, the UK, Romania, Turkey, and Poland. Together, they explored social and political issues, discussed shared challenges, and imagined new possibilities for youth participation across borders.
Challenge
Working within an innovative, student-led framework also brings complexity. Students face the challenge of managing their own learning processes: selecting topics, defining research approaches, and collaborating with peers from different educational and cultural backgrounds.
Throughout the project, real-life issues arise — from communication barriers to differences in expectations — making the experience as much about problem-solving and adaptation as it is about content. These difficulties, however, are valuable learning opportunities that foster resilience, cooperation, and personal growth.
Methodology
Young Europeans is based on pedagogical approaches such as outschooling and action competence, which prioritize student agency. Learners choose what to investigate, how to do it, and when and where to take action. This learner-centered approach strengthens their motivation, autonomy, and engagement with real-world challenges.
Outcomes
In the coming months, students will continue to develop the group projects started during the mobility. These will be evaluated formatively, with ongoing reflection and feedback. Partner universities will compile the insights into educational guides designed for current and future educators, ensuring that the project’s outcomes benefit the broader educational community across Europe.
